I tried my dogs on raw and they did not take to it. I am looking forward to the cooked dog food recipes when you get them. Right now they are on a veterinary prescription diet because they are overweight. We have a 6 year old Lab and a 5 year old Labradoodle. I started to cook for them after they rejected the raw diet but our vet was disapproving and felt strongly I was doing them more harm than good. I’ll just check back periodically to see if you’ve posted any recipes.
Of course your vet will disapprove, they are not making any money off you if you’re not buying their prescription diets. And those pet foods are some of the worst for you dogs. Cooking for your dogs is the healthiest and most loving thing you can do for them. Vets are not schooled in nutrition – just ask them. They believe what they told by the pet food industry. Diet is the single most important factor in a long healthy life for your four-legged friends. Unfortunately, you can’t always trust your vet to know what’s best for your pets. Do a search on dog food ingredients and know for yourself what you’re feeding your dogs.
About 8 years ago, my lab mix friend seemed to be on her last legs…….she had incontinence, weight problems, and failing rear legs. She was on prescription kibble, prescription joint supplements, and prescription medication(s). She was then 10 years old and I was suspecting that she might not ever be 11.
Oddly enough, it was a chronic case of diarrhea that altered the course of her health. In my effort to ease her digestion I researched and then prepared a simple chicken and white rice diet……..just to settle her stomach. I figured I’d return her to her kibble feed once her digestion was restored. But after a few days of no kibble, no pills, and no vet supplements, I noticed an unexpected change—she was walking normally. So I decided to postpone her return to her vet-prescribed diet for a little while. As she continued to improve, I bought a hand food processor for chopping my ingredients, researched and tweaked my recipe and watched in awe as my best friend’s health returned. We began walking again, she could again climb stairs, her incontinence disappeared, and I threw away her pills. We enjoyed 7 more years together but at least it was age, not my neglect, that claimed her.
Thanks to Cindy, Ed, and their staff for providing this thoughtful and caring resource.
Where do I find the actual recipe. I am very anxious to try this type of food for my dog. I have a mixed breed (shitzu and minpin). She’s a year old now and seems prone to gaining a little to much weight. I want to keep her healthy. She has never been allowed to have any people food.
This has worked so well that we can eat in the vehicle with her in the front seat beside us and she will lay down and not bother us at all. The only way she’ll eat dry food is if I put something like little cesars mixed in. Please help with something a picky eater will eat.
Very interesting stuff, I came upon your site today looking for recipes for home made food for my 12yr old black lab Jessie. She has good structural joints but arthritis is setting in quickly. I thought that maybe revitalizing her diet may help get her more of the proper vitamins to ease swelling and get her a little more mobile (she has a hard time with her back legs)….any suggestions. She does not do well with raw bones etc as they seem to upset her stomach
My elderly dog with medical problems who was refusing to eat any commercial dog food on his own just gobbles this up!! We’ve gone from hand/force feeding to cleaning the bowl and looking for more. Thanks!
My 9-year old german shepherd has shown symptoms of severe arthritis within the last month and doesn’t want to eat his dry food. Do you have any recommendation of what kind of food I should make for him to help with his arthritis? Thank you for your great comments.
Kibble is terrible and dogs fed it suffer premature aging. Try feeding him the easy cooked dog food recipe or the easy raw dog food recipe. Both these recipes are healthy and nutritious. I would recommend substituting the Supromega fish oil for the Lickochops in either recipe. The additional fish oil and vitamin E will do your older dog much good. All these supplements can be purchased at dinovite.com.
This is just what I’ve been looking for in order to upgrade by Jack Russell’s diet. He is 12 and still very active. He was losing weight recently and I took him to the vet. His liver enzymes were in the 4000’s. They are sure it is not cancer, probably not Cushings. He has had an ultrasound, and I’m against a biopsy. He has been eating Before Grains dog food for about 5 years. Besides giving him Denamarin, they want me to feed him a very expense food by Royal Canin for Hepatic dogs with cottage cheese to add protein. I’m horrified at the contents of this very expense dog food. I figure it’s best to just give him better quality food, like human. Do you know anything or have any followers who have dealt with the high liver enzyme thing and used raw food? The hepatic dog food doesn’t have much protein and so I can’t see the point. What are your thoughts?
I can not view the intermediate or advance raw diet recipes. All it says is “coming soon”, but reading the past posts seems as if something was there and is now missing. I look forward to trying your recipes with my own dogs.
Thanks.
Very interested in your cooked dog food recipes. Will we have to wait long before they’re posted?
BJ,
My goal is to post it next week. Thanks for waiting.

Alice,
To be honest I’ve never had a dog with high liver enzymes.
Ed
Can you give me a product available in Canada that you think is equal to the Dinovite and Lick-o-Chops.
Thanks
Steve,
I’m sorry there is nothing on the market that compares.

I’ve just not had the time to post new recipes.
